What Makes These Different
Most engine models are driven by an electric motor: the pistons move, but nothing burns. The engines on this page have a fuel supply, an ignition and a starter, and they start, idle, rev and stall like the real thing.
That makes them more demanding to own. They need fuel and oil mixed correctly, a break-in period, a starting routine and some cleaning, and they produce exhaust, heat and noise. For the right person that is exactly the point.
Fuel: Petrol, Kerosene or Nitro
Petrol (gasoline). Four of the five run on ordinary 92-octane or better petrol. The two MUSA engines take petrol mixed with two-stroke oil, and both are listed as also running on kerosene. The Toyan L-series engines are lubricated with grease on the camshaft and, on the L200, a mixed-oil system; follow the manual for each.
Nitro. The Toyan FS-B400 is the exception. It runs on model nitro fuel, methanol with 20–25% nitromethane, and uses a glow plug instead of a spark plug. Nitro fuel is sold for RC models and is a different product from petrol, so check you can buy it locally before choosing this engine.
Fuel is not included with any of them; Stirlingkit notes that it cannot be shipped.
Kit or Ready to Run
Kits: the Toyan L400, L200 and FS-B400 arrive as parts. Building one teaches you every component of the engine, and when it starts, it is an engine you made.
Ready to run: the MUSA Hoglet V2 arrives assembled and tested, and the MUSA F1 comes finished with its spark plug and fuel tank fitted. You add fuel and start them, and spend your time on running and tuning instead.
What Is Not in the Box
- Fuel, for every engine here.
- Toyan L200: the $229 price is the engine only. You also need the starter kit and a 2S–3S lithium battery; the retailer's sets with a starter kit start at $329.
- MUSA Hoglet V2: fuel and batteries are not included.
- MUSA F1: the retailer lists a 2S lithium battery (two 18650 cells) as its starting power supply, and the battery is not in the packing list.
- Toyan L400: the full set is the most complete here, with the starting harness, fuel tank, radiator and a battery included.
Running One Safely
These are real internal combustion engines, with petrol or methanol-based fuel, exhaust gas, heat, noise and parts turning at up to 16,000 rpm. Run them outdoors or somewhere with serious ventilation, keep fuel well away from the engine, and have a fire extinguisher suitable for fuel fires at hand.

Which One to Choose
Cheapest real running engine: the Toyan L200 at $229 for the engine, or about $329 with a starter kit.
Want to start it like a motorcycle: the MUSA Hoglet V2, with its kickstart and no build.
The most engine for the money: the Toyan L400 full set, a four-cylinder with almost everything needed to run it included.
A flat-four on nitro: the Toyan FS-B400, if you can get nitro fuel.
A classic stationary engine for the shelf and the workbench: the MUSA F1.

What We Could Not Verify
We have not run these engines. Every specification comes from the retailers' product data:
- Power and rpm figures are the makers' own and are not independently measured.
- Stock: all five were available from the retailers we link to on September 29, 2026. The FS-B400 was sold out at Stirlingkit but in stock at Nikolatoy, where our link goes.
- Fuel consumption, run time and noise are not documented for any of them.
What Changed in This Update
September 29, 2026: every engine re-checked against the retailers' product data, which corrected several errors on the earlier version of this page. The Toyan L400 and L200 are kits, not pre-assembled engines, and both run on petrol, not methanol. The MUSA single-cylinder is 2.7 cc, runs to 8,000 rpm rather than 12,000, and is air-cooled, not water-cooled. The FS-B400 has the same 14 cc displacement as the L400, not more. TOYAN FS-L400BGC 14cc Inline-Four
A 14 cc inline four-cylinder, four-stroke petrol engine that you assemble yourself. Rated at 3.05 hp between 3,200 and 13,500 rpm, with CDI ignition, an electric start and combined water and air cooling. The full set includes the starting harness, fuel tank, radiator and a battery, so almost everything you need to run it is in the box apart from the fuel.

The cheapest way into a real running multi-cylinder engine: a 7 cc inline twin you assemble yourself, air-cooled and rated at 0.6 PS between 4,000 and 16,000 rpm. The $229 price is for the engine only; it has a built-in electric starting motor but needs a 2S–3S lithium battery and the starter kit, which the retailer sells in sets from $329.

MUSA Hoglet V2 6.6cc V-Twin
A motorcycle-style V-twin that arrives fully assembled and tested. The upgraded version grows from 4.4 cc to 6.6 cc, and you start it the way you would a motorcycle, with a working kickstart lever, or with an electric drill on a 6 mm rod. The ignition timing can be adjusted from outside the engine. It runs on petrol mixed with two-stroke oil; fuel and batteries are not included.

A small single-cylinder OHV stationary engine that comes finished and ready to run, with the spark plug and fuel tank fitted. It turns between 800 and 8,000 rpm, uses forced air cooling, and is started with an electric drill or by hand on a 6 mm rod. Runs on petrol or kerosene with two-stroke oil.
